One thing to note though, is that a lot of people looking for the best small digital camera base their entire purchasing decision on which camera has the most mega pixels.  Any of the cameras in our top 5 list have plenty of mega pixels and take very crisp, clean photos.  However, if you’re going to be taking pictures of a lot of sporting events where you’ll need to zoom in on your subjects, the ones with a higher optical zoom would be the better choice for you. So, the Fujifilm Finepix F300EXR or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 would be the best choices for you.  The other three cameras will work great and produce high quality images of your kids birthday parties and other special occasions.
